In America The early performances of Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the category of child prodigies. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family these qualities were natural. Maureen entered this loving refuge located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was an infant and was extremely adept in them. Her passion and her gift for performing was remarkable. In the end, she received almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study classical theatre and operatic vocals.
